Lisa Joyce’s characterization of Princess Winnifred is not to be missed! The rough-and-tumble princess contagious energy shines as she swims the moat for her first meeting with her prince and uses her dancers’ ability to fully express Winifred’s shenanigans. BSU’s Family Theater production of “Once Upon A Mattress” also features inspired performances by Andrew Child as the woeful Prince Dauntless and Katia Greene as the Queen Aggravain; who doesn’t want to give up her son or the throne. The remainder of the cast are a host of accomplished players, dancers and musicians whose solos and group numbers keep the audience hopping.
To the delight and amusement of the audience, Chris Scully’s unique lighting combined with Al Forgione’s set design keep the production in a constant state of movement and entertainment. The audience is in continuous anticipation of what will happen next!
Brooke Stanton’s imaginative costuming and Eli Bigelow’s ability to deliver perfect tempo & musical enhancement lend to the frivolity.
Great job on a show fabulously done!
