On April 28, eight members of the General Federation of Woman’s Clubs was able to attend the annual Conference of GFWC of Massachusetts Junior Membership in Springfield at the Hilton Garden Inn. This conference celebrates the achievements of clubs in the last year and recognizes awards for service projects performed by local clubs.
At this Annual Conference, the club was recognized for their Overall Creative Excellence in Leadership and received Special Recognition for Education, International Outreach, Domestic Violence Awareness & Prevention programs, and WHRC (Women’s History and Research Center). They also had their member Cindy Brogan chosen to receive the Shell Award for her outstanding work in GFWC. For a second year in a row, the GFWC Taunton Junior Woman’s club was presented with the overall award in their division of the coveted Silver bowl for programs and activities throughout the year. Members also received first, second, third place, and honorable mention ribbons for their entries in the Arts Department’s photography contest.
The GFWC Taunton and Raynham Junior Woman’s Club is made up of women who live and work in the greater Taunton/Raynham area. The club is in its’ 68th year of volunteer service to the community and the world. They have hosted many fundraisers to benefit student scholarships and charities. Some of their more popular events are their yearly themed Teas, Soup Samplers, Foxwoods trips, and Fashion Shows. They also have supported the homeless through Matthew’s Mission 25, our veterans, the elderly in our local nursing homes, and our local schools, and libraries.
