230 Pleasant St EB, James Sidney Allen

Born in East Bridgewater in 1831, James Sidney Allen, at the age of 17, began to learn the shoemaking trade. He started a business of his own in East Bridgewater, then moved to Brockton. He lived in West Bridgewater and Brockton, then returned to East Bridgewater in 1855, where this house was built in 1854.

The street number is now 230 Pleasant St. Mr. Allen was a selectman, member of the school committee, Representative to the General Court, 1881-1883 and was a state senator from the Plymouth Second District.
He had five children.
